If you’re obsessed with refresh rates, but don’t want to spend big or sacrifice on size or resolution, then the Acer Nitro ED270U might be for you. This QHD curved panel has been discounted by $130 over at B&H , and boasts a speedy 300Hz refresh rate, which is ideal for faster-paced games where speed is super-important.

A couple of years ago, I performed a side-by-side controlled test, which offered up images by monitors of different refresh rates next to each other. A 300Hz panel offers up a much clearer image, even with on-screen elements flying past you. In situations like a competitive first-person shooter, I was able to increase my rate of headshots on the wandering head in Counter-Strike using the faster panels, naturally. So, if you’re big on competitive gaming, the better hardware can give you somewhat of an advantage in that test, at the very least.

Acer’s Nitro ED270U 1440p, 300Hz gaming monitor offers a 1500R curve, FreeSync Premium compatibility, in addition to a 1ms (VRB) response time, this panel is fantastic for those looking for a buttery-smooth display. Now, here’s the kicker. It’s a VA panel, so you can’t expect perfect color uniformity across the whole panel. While this isn’t a deal-breaker, it does affect the image quality on offer here. However, if you’re looking for a capable monitor that can push out a high refresh rate, this might be a great option for you.

The panel is equipped with 2W speakers, which should suffice in a pinch, but I’d recommend hooking up a pair of adequate speakers or gaming headphones to use on the daily instead. If my burn-in was worse, I'd seriously consider upgrading, but I think I'm going to stick with my 2021 model for another year.

The one thing that I would keep in mind if considering using a TV as a monitor. You'll almost certainly want to wall-mount the screen — especially if you're going bigger than 42 inches. And paying for a wall mount that lets you pull the screen forward, away from the wall when watching TV or gaming is a good way to effectively get a screen that looks bigger when you aren't working, but still small enough to keep any neck pain at bay when you're churning through TPS reports.
