A Stoner I really detest how mathematics is used in the English language… three times slower? How about 1/3 the speed of… Reply

das_stig So all that Aaron Klotz could report was a cpu with 12HT cores is slower than its direct competitors on a unknown quality of motherboard, with unknown memory (DDR4?) and unknown anything else is slower than an modern 2 year AMD Zen 5 cpu 6HT cores. This is why TH reporters are so bad at their jobs, they report nothing of consequence and you wouldn't trust them to say the sky was blue! Reply

anoldnewb "China's best consumer x86 CPUs are still miles behind Intel and AMD in terms of performance" This is not an x86 architecture chip. It is proprietary extension of the MIPS architecture. Reply

bit_user The article said: Loongson is working on newer CPU architectures that it hopes will be much faster than what the 3B6000 and its LA664 CPU architecture offer right now. Yeah, this core first launched in the 3A6000 almost 2 years ago. Chips & Cheese reviewed it around that time. https://chipsandcheese.com/p/loongson-3a6000-a-star-among-chinese-cpus Just keep in mind that it's not actually their latest & greatest. Reply

The Phoronix article has all the details. https://www.phoronix.com/review/loongson-3b6000-loongarchThe CPU was BGA (i.e. soldered to the motherboard), so there really was no choice of board. Furthermore, it seems to be a manufacturer-provided evaluation board. So, basically a reference design. The memory was 2x 32 GB of DDR4-3200 RDIMMs. The SSD used was a Samsung 980 Pro (I doubt a faster one would've made any difference). Reply

It is proprietary extension of the MIPS architecture. Yeah, good point – the subtitle got the ISA wrong. As for Loongson vs. MIPS, it does have a somewhat different ISA, but the system architecture is where they borrowed most heavily from MIPS. Reply
