Although the beta didn't show off a lot of core Battlefield gameplay with vehicle interplay and large maps, players had an implicit expectation that these would be introduced and/or tweaked as the game launched. That did not happen, and instead players got the RedSec battle royale mode, season passes, skins, and microtransactions. Adding insult to injury, the rare patches seemed to introduce more issues than they fixed, namely but not only around the netcode and vehicle balance.
Predictably, there were few new maps — almost none actually large — and players soon grew weary of the constant "meat-grinder" combat, with many expressing feelings that the series had abandoned key elements that made it relatively unique in the first place. All combined, these factors resulted in general disappointment, reflected in the daily player count. Besides Steam, the game is available on the EA App, Epic, and Playstation and Xbox consoles, but the picture isn't likely to be much better there.

Unolocogringo EA ruins everything it acquires. Used to love the EA lingo but that was many years ago. Reply

SkyBill40 As soon as the news broke of Zampella's untimely passing, I assumed BF was in trouble. And I especially felt a general sense of uneasiness when it was announced that EA would be sold off to the Saudis (et al). Reply
randomizer " made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community." I wonder what they think that is. Evidently "what everyone else is offering" is not it. Reply
alan.campbell99 *sigh* I remember the first BF pretty well, then really getting into the Desert Combat mod, especially trying to master helicopters. Fun times. Haven't played online since BF3 I think. Reply
palladin9479 Yes Battlefield Call of Duty Edition flopped hard. All those sales were purely on name and hype. When players saw there wasn't any big 64+ player maps, they dropped the game. Reply
saunupe1911 Screw EA! I don't even want play Battle Field anymore smh. This really pisses me off Reply
thestryker With the shifted direction of Battlefield I wasn't sure they would be able to keep up, but as soon as Zampella died the writing was on the wall. I always preferred TDM game modes, but the best part of Battlefield was always being able to have a little something for everyone. I played a ton of 3/4 and tried V/2042 but the gameplay variation just wasn't there so I somewhat bounced off of them. I think BF6 would have had more legs if they had been adding in the stuff that defined the series rather than leaning into the codification. My distrust is why I didn't get this one despite the warm reception. Reply
Elusive Ruse Long time BF player played all of them from 1942 to BF1. Came back to play BF6 because of the Beta hype, enjoyed the game after launch massively and put in almost 200 hours in. Yet the game became increasingly worse with every patch and update. After Redsec dropped and Red Bull challenges followed I stopped playing. Reply
