This does not mean Thingiverse will automatically become a paid model site. Calder emphasized the desire to restore Thingiverse to its former glory, but said they will take time to listen to users and include them in the journey. He also admitted to having a relatively small team, so it may take a bit of time to clean up all the old, unusable files from abandoned accounts.
Calder noted that while advertising will likely remain on the platform, they plan to seek out relevant sponsors rather than depending on random ads from Google . Once the infrastructure is stabilized, they will introduce a business model allowing creators to monetize their human-created designs directly on Thingiverse. Currently, many designers use the site simply as a promotional tool to attract customers to paid platforms elsewhere.
The combined MyMiniFactory and Thingiverse team will host a live Q&A on February 17th at 5pm UTC to share their vision and hear from the community. MyMiniFactory wants to reiterate that this is a combined effort, and the future of Thingiverse will be built with the community in order to bring them the platform they deserve.
In addition to the Q&A, people are encouraged to have their say directly on Thingiverse via the official Thingiverse group, which can be found here . All feedback and ideas will be considered as the roadmap is developed and the future of the platform is realised.
"Thingiverse belongs to the people who use it," said Kidd. "We want them involved in what happens next."

S58_is_the_goat It's been a while since I used thingiverse since I got my bambu, definitely feels dated compared to makerworld and printables. But even printables isn't perfect, the search works in a strange way, if you type in 4 words and all those words aren't in the title of the part then you get 0 results, you basically have to be less specific to find something. Makerworld on the other hand is perfect, good luck to catching up to it. Reply
jp7189 Idk, there's a place for curated and guaranteed to print, but there's also an argument for a place for people to upload things that have no shot at printing as is. I often browse through thingiverse looking for things that I can remix to get what I need or that can be combined together. As in.. "I have no idea what that is supposed to do, but that little curved piece on the end is perfect for what I need." I'll chop that up and make something new. Im not very creative, but at least that way I can participate in the creative process which gives me satisfaction. I dont want to just be a consumer of designs. AND I also love my mini factory. Some of those designs are beautiful, and I'll gladly pay for such talented work. Im just saying i hope they dont change the spirit of thingiverse too much. 100% curated by humans has a cost. It means they have to recover the cost somehow, and we'll lose access to those weird little widgets that were never printable in the real world (but still had a good idea) Reply

Does any other site have the ability to buy little screws or tubing or led lights to complete the build? Nope haven't seen any. Reply
