The issue is exacerbated by older power supplies that only support 8-pin PCIe cables, for which GPU manufacturers supply 8-pin-to-16-pin adapters, adding another factor into the equation. Funnily enough, this Redditor was using a native 12V-2×6 cable that came with their PowerSpec 1050 GFM power supply, so even that excuse is out the window. We're sending our holiday wishes to the poster, hoping the GPU is somehow salvageable.

Gururu It's still shocking to me as literally any other electronic device would have been recalled already. Coffee makers, microwaves, space heaters, toaster ovens, etc.. Reply
Shiznizzle What a poorly designed card. They want you to pump enough watts through to use the card as a space heater to heat your room with but attach cables that are not even 15 gauge thick to carry the current. Poster above me is right though. There should be a recall and they should be made to retrofit the cards. These cards cost serious money now Reply
valthuer MSI Gaming Trio 5090 OC, right here. It happened to me yesterday, for the second time in just six months! PC restating while gaming for no apparent reason, is what got me alerted. Kernel 41 power draw issue. Pulled out the adapter and it was so hot, I could barely touch it. MSI, you can go **** yourself! Reply
Amdlova It's another user error. User still accept that cable design… valthuer said: Kernel 41 power draw issue. Latest windows update give that error. But in my system is related a ram fault (low imc voltage) running 4000mhz on cpu without changing the voltage. Reply
FunSurfer About a year ago I recommended lubricating the 16-pin power connector with WD-40 and someone else suggested the CRC 2-26, so is will be easier to push the connector all the way through and will prevent the oxidation and corrosion that forms on the connector's pins that cause the bad connection and therefore the overheating, it will help to know if the users with the burned connectors applied that or not. Netsrfr From the photo, it appears that the wire(s) that may have not been carrying load are on the side of the connector that is still intact enough to tell that it is fully seated. Reply

WD-40 is actually flammable, not sure about that… Reply

When you send your things to rma they track every inch of your device and smell everything. They need only a small hair to denied your RMA request. They not there to solve your problem They are there to solve you. Reply
Notton I have my MSI 4070Ti plugged into an MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 and it's working just fine. I even double checked it with a IR camera. The problem happens when you pump 600W through the connector. What I notice is that only one side of the pins are burnt on these connectors, and what I assume is happening is the current loop is finding a different path back to the PSU. Reply

Nvidia and SGI(?) are responsible for the connector not MSI.They added the yellow to help but it's still a defective design. On many fronts. Reply
