If you're looking for a massi storage upgrade, you can't do much better than Seagate's massive 24 TB hard drive. This 7200-RPM disk is backed by 2 years of warranty, and doesn't even feel slow for its class, thanks to the 190MB/s top speed. This drive uses speedy CMR tech, too.
Seagate's Barracuda lineup is one of the most well-known names in storage, and we've reviewed a lot of them. It may not win any awards, but when we tested the 8 TB variant , it had very low power consumption, the least among all drives in most benchmarks. Regardless, the 24 TB variant we're highlighting today spins at 7200 RPM and uses the SATA 6 GB/s interface, enabling transfer speeds of up to 190 MB/s. That's possible in part due to the 512 MB of onboard cache, which makes this drive a bit faster than the bare-bones offerings.
You get two years of warranty with the 24 TB Barracuda, and while it may not be as good as the 5-year period on EXOS drives, you're saving a lot by not going for an enterprise-grade drive. More importantly, this HDD uses the superior Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) technology instead of the far slower Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) that is barely better than actual shingles. All that for a record-low price of just $239.99 — it's like you're getting a terabyte for every $10.
