Shiznizzle That earthquake is strong enough to cause serious structural damage to buildings. I lived through the 1989, 6.9 on the richter, Loma Prieta and i was 10 miles away from the epicenter when it happened. To anybody that has not lived through a serious earthquake then let me tell you that even just standing up straight, if at all, is a monumental task. The ground is moving back and forth at great speed and you are standing on top of it. I saw buildings collapse. The huge pane of shop window glass in front of me was acting like it was water. Very strange what you will take in under duress. The damage was so great due to most of california sitting on a pile of sand and it liquefies during an earthquake. There is going to be quite a bit of damage at the fab even when they say there was not. You cant BS me when i have felt a 6.9 Reply
Notton As far as I can remember, the last time this happened the fabs were unaffected, but the wafers were scrapped. https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/earthquake-may-have-affected-20-000-tsmc-wafers-the-majority-will-likely-have-to-be-scrapped IDK who designed and built the TSMC fabs, but TSMC will have similar seismic proofing engineering as Kioxia has in their fabs. ivLvsTnp9fI:1117 Reply
George³ The location and depth of the epicenter of this earthquake actually means that the surface intensity on the Medvedev-Sponheuer-Karnik scale, especially in the area of the TSMC factories, is not as great as you imagine from your own experiences. This earthquake was more energetic(2.5-2.8 times more than current Taiwanese earthquake) and with a significantly shallower epicenter and your distance was significantly closer. Reply
