Edric26 Impossible to integrate and reliably work as intended without causing all sorts of stupidity and headache. Likely to cost much, much more than the most generous projections. Effective? Quite likely very effective in disrupting research and development, education, and just about any other thing enjoying the flexibility 3d printing offers, at best destroying efficiency to such degree that 3d printing is abandoned for other processes. Might kickstart a "bad idea knock-on effect", CNC machines and other manufacturing technologies will be big brothered next, for the chillun. Only possible to enforce if they're able to remove a couple of amendments from the Constitution. Trivial for just about anyone with a bit of technical aptitude to remove or bypass, because if someone were going to make an illegal weapon with a regulated and surveilled printer, why in the world would they not? I don't even use 3d printers yet but I can probably find plenty more wonderful reasons this is silly, the best reason being that this is completely silly and won't do anything besides cost money and make 3d printing too much of a hassle. I don't buy the whole "lawmakers don't actually understand the real impact" issue here. They absolutely do and someone needs to look closer. A technology this impactful doesn't get squashed like this out of ignorance, not even for the chillun. Follow the money. Just saying.
