World Labs' team will continue to do model research. The companies say that the deal will strengthen an “open AI ecosystem,” per the release, and World Labs said in its own post that it remains committed to “widely accessible open models.”
Atlas, World Labs’ latest world model, will power future versions of its Marble product, the company says. Li’s co-founders Justin Johnson and Ben Mildenhall will continue to work with Li in leading World Labs, including after Li takes on the new role at AMD after the expected close of the transaction by the end of the year.

bill001g This is the big problem with financial risks with AI. You now have AMD shareholders in effect being forced to invest in AI companies. The stock value is in effect being reduced by all the new stock given to the investors that funded the AI company. If they are smart this will sell them now while AMD still has value. All these AI models will not survive and when it fails it will not just be the AI company that lose their money. The guys who gamble on AI deserve to lose big or win big but the losers should not then come to government for a bail out because they took a bunch of other companies with them. Reply
jp7189 LLMs are useful, but that use is specific and limited. Im in the camp that next get AI has to truly "understand" all the dimensions we live in. Marble might look like a cool new way to build game worlds, but it could become so much more than that. Reply

AMD stock holder here.. I'm not complaining about a 171% return YTD. I keep holding AMD stock specifically because they use it in wise ways like this. Are you arguing that AMD should play it safe and not invest in things that are likely to become the "next big thing"? See my previous comment about why I think WL is the next big thing. Reply

AMD's share price is overvalued primarily because of AI. And, in order to keep that going, AMD needs to prove it's a serious player, in the AI race. So, I don't see this as a real problem. bill001g said: If they are smart this will sell them now while AMD still has value. Either way, AMD's share price will get pummeled with the rest of the tech sector, if/when the AI bubble bursts. So, the decision about if & when to sell is really more about that. No different than the conundrum we've been facing over the past few years. bill001g said: All these AI models will not survive AMD seems more interested in how World Labs' expertise can inform the design of future hardware, so that it's capable of accelerating not only their own model, but other leading-edge models. This is a capability Nvidia has, so AMD really needed to catch up, there. bill001g said: The guys who gamble on AI deserve to lose big or win big but the losers should not then come to government for a bail out because they took a bunch of other companies with them.
