bigdragon I have an even better idea: Force the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Loudoun county Virginia. Yes, it would have to go adjacent to or on one of the islands of the Potomac River. I can already hear the gnashing of teeth from people screaming about the sanctity of the river, the need to keep it all natural and pristine, land values, and how important the river ecosystem is. These same people also demand that their neighbors carve up their communities with transmission lines and pay more for utilities while also bragging about how low the taxes are in Loudoun because of all the data center income. PJM is going to keep carving states up with transmission lines, increasing delivery/transmission fees, and failing to meet energy capacity requirements until we do something about the source of the problem. We cannot allow one jurisdiction to approve the construction of and further incentivize future construction for more data centers than the grid can handle today, tomorrow, and in the near future. Loudoun can build its own power plants to power its data centers. It doesn't need to be pulling electricity from Three Mile Island in Harrisburg, PA and continue screwing over everyone living within PJM's territory. Reply

Scott_Tx By the time they could build a nuclear power plant the AI bubble will have long burst and they know that. And its one of the most expensive forms of power too. Reply

Loudoun would still use the power. Every big tech company has data centers there. Plenty of content delivery, virtual machine, cloud storage, and data analytics going on. They're so desperate for power that companies like Microsoft dumped tons of money into restarting Three Mile Island's remaining reactor, and PJM has been busy with transmission lines to move that power from PA to VA. Every new Loudoun data center is having to provide their own on-site generation because of how bad the PJM energy deficit is. I really don't see an alternative to a nuclear power plant on the Potomac. Reply
