I happen to be American, but spent time in China, and had a great team there. I love China, both for how amazing a place it is (like my own country), but also despite of the flaws I see there. It's so much like the USA in both its good and bad sides. You do know how the USA got big industrially? By stealing IP from the UK, for example. China and the USA will some day hopefully be great friends and real international leaders — not attempting to take from others, but helping the world stay sustainable and peaceful. It may be hard to imagine today, but there are some truly brilliant and good and kind people in both of these countries, and as powerful as they are, we need them both to be good leaders. Reply

Chinese government is generally not "repressive" in the sense that westerners use the term. China does take IP any way it can find a way to take it. Pretending otherwise is silly. And as China becomes a leader in different areas, China tries to defend its own IP. Not every new business is started by stealing confidential information. But yes, some are. Hopefully the end result of all of this is good for the world. We need open markets, and good, healthy competition. We want innovation, and we want innovators to thrive from their work. We also don't want any one country to become so dominant that it can hurt others with its power. (I'm not going to give any examples, but they are out there if you want to look for them. This is a technical forum, so I don't want to talk politics.) Countries that try to use their power to kill competition are bad for everyone — including themselves. What do their emissions have to do with false claims? Are they claiming to be 100% green and solar powered? China will pollute and "steal" IP as long as there are minimal consequences for doing so. But they can recognize that domestic innovation needs to occur, or that they don't want to choke their own cities with smog. Having a bunch of coal power plants was helpful as a hedge against potential oil scarcity (as was >1-2 billion barrels in reserves). Reply
