tennis2 It's a sign of the future (which is already in motion). Personal compute has already been made too expensive for the average consumer, especially at the "enthusiast" tier. Datacenters will own the majority of compute and we'll be leasing it from them. Streamed to you through a lightweight device since that's all you can afford. Reply
JamesJones44 I would say the RAM shortage goes beyond that. I personally prefer to use local models than let Anthropic/OpenAI/etc. get all of my content free of charge (actually they charge me to get my content). If RAM cost what it cost just a few years ago I probably would only use local models for my agents. Reply
ravewulf Yeeaaah, I'm not giving credit to Elon for such an easy layup, especially when he's also making the RAM shortage worse, not better. Reply

As if the dude cares if people have thier RAM or not. Hes just taken this opportunity to paint himself good and Altman bad. I know he does not like that dude. Both are horrible dudes. Whats the point of going to the barren mars if you are destroying earth to do it. I actually feel the Pre-AI Google was far better in comparision to these AI companies. Reply
gg83 I really hope Sam and Dario go to prison. Or just get exposed for being snake oil salesman and lose everything. Reply

Cyber_Akuma Even a broken calendar is right once a year I suppose, but as others said: ravewulf said: Yeeaaah, I'm not giving credit to Elon for such an easy layup, especially when he's also making the RAM shortage worse, not better. Sam's statement was so abhorrently absurd that it was pretty much a softball for any attention-seeker to dunk on it. Reply
Darkbreeze You know the only reason Musk said this is because Sam Altman said it. In his heart, you know Musk feels exactly the same way Altman does, but he just couldn't pass up an opportunity to berate Altman because the two really can't stand each other. It had NOTHING at all to do with Musk actually being in favor of consumers having realistic and affordable, much less AT ALL, access to DRAM or any other kind of hardware. Reply
