thrus Now that all the work has been put in expect Nintendo to send legal notices to stop it. They like to wait to waste as much of their fan projects time as possible before trying to stop them. Reply

And decomps/new engines are fine as long as they use the original assets. Simple example: The original DOOM64 PC port requires the original ROM file to work, in order to extract the copyrighted assets from it to keep everything above board. Reply

Emulation is protected thanks to the Bleem! emulator v. Sony lawsuit, yet in 2024 Nintendo managed to still find a way to shut down Yuzu and Ryujinx anyway. If they can't argue that reverse engineering is unlawful they'll just find another way to shut things down. Reply
ezst036 I am very thankful to see the number 100%. The only way to deal with Nintendo's odiousness is to work entirely in the dark – tell NOONE. Then at the end with full completion drop it on github or wherever. BAM. Now Nintendo has to eat it and it never goes away. Worst. Company. Ever. Reply

Rare (Microsoft) and MGM own the rights to the title and software. Nintendo's only claim to it was a console exclusivity license, but they already loosened that restriction in 2023. Nintendo doesn't really have a case for blocking this effort, Microsoft on the other hand, might. Reply

They don't own the title and don't have a hand in the software. I doubt Nintendo will do anything in this case. Reply

Dewy_MMO This is Super cool. I would like to follow the creator or anyone doing 3rd party. Maybe a new version of the game released. N64 smash Bros Melee has a new version tho, it's on hard drive modded hardware for N64. Be nice to see physical copy's maybe Reply

Switch game cartridges have a key inside them that pairs with the console, nintendo didn't shut them down for anything emulation but because decrypting that key is against drm law. For these recompilations there is 0 things that are illegal, there is nothing anybody can do about it. Source: Look at all the recompilations out there since 2019 ,when super mario 64 was the first one, with nintendo never having done anything against them. Reply
usertests GoldenEye notoriously has poor performance on low-end hardware (e.g. ARM handhelds, not sure about Intel N100, have to recheck). So this could be the way to get it running at full speed on more devices. Reply
