SharpEmu is delivering a lot of achievements on the handheld side, though, with massive improvements made for the Steam Deck. The post below shows a similar level of performance for Astro’s Playroom compared to a much more powerful RX 7900 XT system with a Ryzen 9 7900X CPU. It's still barely 1 frame per second, and the game doesn't get past the boot screen, but the fact that it's even possible is enough cause for celebration. Remember, this is the worst that PS5 emulation will ever be.

QuarterSwede It’s just wild to me that pcs are so fast these days, and the devs in the emulation scene so dedicated, that emualtion can be on par or better than the current consoles. I do realize the PS5 is 6 years old at this point but still! I just finished a popular game that I had bought my son and never had a chance to play myself playing it at 60fps while the stock hardware caps out at 30fps. If I had a faster machine I could’ve rendered it at 4K and it have been playable. That’s 2x the resolution the office hardware supports. 🤯 Reply

The consoles being x86 and RDNA2 with some customizations (like the smaller FPU in the PS5's Zen 2 cores, some RDNA3/4 features in use on an RDNA2 base, Tempest, etc.) makes it a different ball game than the old generations. They are more homogeneous and many of the titles are not exclusive and run on PC without emulation. So it's a weird situation where emulation could be technically easier but less urgent. Until Sony started pissing everybody off. Reply
