Also This only looks like a value because that mobo is overpriced. You can get a highly rated one with WiFi for $90. As far as "cutting price but not cutting corners", the 5500 being a mobile variant has half the L3 cache, which matters in games. Also, it will likely be paired with a 5060 which is limited to x8 lanes, while the CPU is limited to PCIe 3. Furthermore, PCIe 4 SSD's cost is on par with PCIe 3 these days, so you'd lose out there as well. That one probably doesn't matter much, but the others do. 5500 vs 5600 That's 18% alone for losing half the cache. https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aTY4znT6Pbyk5xpwVLXGjD-1796-80.png.webp PCIe 3 with a 5060 vs PCIe 4/5 https://www.techspot.com/review/3004-nvidia-rtx-5060-ti-pcie-benchmark/ In some games the difference is small, in others you can lose half the FPS. If going with a 9060 XT 8GB because it has a full 16 lanes that isn't a problem, but the vast majority of people buy Nvidia. From the article: For the most part, the 8 GB 5060 Ti is nearly unusable when VRAM is exceeded, largely due to its 8-lane configuration. Even PCIe 5.0 cannot overcome this limitation. The 9060 XT does perform better on PCIe 4.0 and 5.0, thanks to its full 16-lane interface, which provides twice the bandwidth under the same PCIe version. If not gaming, none of this matters. But most DIY people do at least some gaming, and this CPU requires a dGPU so that makes it even more likely. The real problem is the 5500 is still available and cheap, making it very popular. The 5600-5800 series have all been steadily going up in price. The time to buy decent 6-8 core AM4 CPU's has long passed. Still, saving on the mobo and getting a used 5600X would be more ideal IMHO. So I'll finish it with your uninformed words, "try again". Reply
