Dr3ams The commissioners had reportedly repeatedly warned against clapping and making other reactions while someone was speaking. Sounds pretty simple to me. A clear warning was given…just don't clap while someone is speaking. This individual didn't just clap once, but five times. Nobody was forbidden to speak and voice their opinion when their turn came around. Reply

DS426 “We are citizens of this community; we have a right to do our constitutionally protected activities, which is exactly what they’re violating at this time as well,” the community member said. “I think we’re all in a state of fear because of what this government’s doing to us.” – one of the citizens at the meeting Exactly right. A city commission's public town hall meeting isn't a courtroom and thus doesn't mandate the same level of personal conduct and decorum. The civic leaders were right in ensuring an orderly meeting and have a degree of authority and responsibility to do so, but clapping in a non-disruptive manner doesn't meet that threshold for "disorderly conduct." They obviously just didn't like it and felt they had the authority and nerve to trample Free Speech under the false pretense of "orderly conduct." This isn't how you treat reasonable citizens that you work for as elected officials. I like what the arrested man's brother said: "This isn’t going to hold up in court. Lux is going to fight them on that. I’m looking at avenues to get these people recalled . This is insane to me." He didn't resist being removed. It's one thing to have him removed, but to actually press charges… that's when things get really concerning: when peaceful civil disobedience is met with making an example out of someone. I'd love to see this case work it's way up the court system. Reply
Blastomonas It may have been against the rules to clap, but to be arrested? A little bit too far me thinks. The US isn't what it used to be.. Thankfully I don't live there 😁 Reply

Also, he didn't clap 5 separate times. He clapped his hands together 5 times at the end of the speech. Sorry, but I don't want to be in your world where clapping 5 times for someone you agree with gets you arrested. Why don't you move to Russia if that is what you prefer. Reply
