Are you going to argue that Nvidia developing CUDA in 2007 led to the transformer paper in 2017 and ChatGPT in 2022? Otherwise, AMD, Intel, or any number of other companies would have happily filled Nvidia's place in the industry if they had the opportunity. Reply

Enormous incoming cash reserves do seem to have a way of causing large corporations to engage in avaricious behaviour. I wonder, if AMD hadn't dropped the ball so badly around that time, would they have ended up being the ultimate villains? In any case, thanks to that tiresome little initialism (A.I-gagh!) technology is apparently no longer for normal consumers. We may as well return to filling our personal time with entertaining ourselves by reading books, and playing board games with the family, around the dining table on dark winter evenings. Yeah, we really did do stuff like that, at least in my family. Crikey, I'm old. Reply

Yeah, we really did do stuff like that, at least in my family. Crikey, I'm old. All that stuff and/or learn to love older games on older GPUs or integrated graphics. Most of the games people want to play will run on a sub-$80 used graphics card like an RX 580 8GB (here's one with new fans and paste wow). Many older games will run on quad-core Skylake with HD 530 iGPU at 720p/1080p. For example, hopefully we'll see Skyblivion released soon as an antidote to the comically unoptimized Oblivion Remastered. Consumers may still need a 1 TB SSD in their life. It's a matter of spending around $130-200, depending on the brand/type. Reply
