Windows 11 8GB RAM configurations get a performance boost

It's old if so, but I don't see the 40% claim: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2026/10/15/whats-new-in-windows-11-everyday-experiences-reimagined/ I had to search around to find it: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2026/11/03/raising-the-bar-for-8-gb-windows-11-pcs-whats-improved-and-how-to-get-it/ Reply

That's how the OS is paid for now. Click the ads. Everybody wanted a free OS and Mic….. Hey! That widget is 40% off!!!!! I just saw it in the ad! Reply

FunSurfer Can Windows use VRAM as extra storage? If there is a PC with 8GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM (on the gpu), maybe it will be faster to store and read excess data on the VRAM instead of the SSD, especially if the non volatile storage is SATA SSD or HDD. It will be kind of 16GB RAM PC, for non gaming uses. Reply

They just need to want it. Reply

razor512 Microsoft should just extend support for windows 10 until 2029, as it handles lower RAM config far better. For my PC running windows 10 with a small number of startup items (mainly the logitech stuff for my G700 and G510s, soundblaster Z driver software, AMD radeon software, PIA, MSI afterburner, and displaycal profile loader, it still managed to not wreak too much havoc on the RAM at startup with 64GB (slightly above the minimum requirements for windows 10). While windows 10 and windows 11 can scale their RAM usage down in heavily constrained system, e.g., it will drop to 2.7GB on a 4GB system, but it will be extremely sluggish. Windows performs at its best when it can load everything that it needs in RAM when it comes to the core system files (excluding cached usage which windows can freely dump instantly at a moments notice). With 8GB, windows 10 will use about 1.5GB of RAM (after you remove the Copilot bloat as well as office 365 and OneDrive junk). Since windows can do an in-place upgrade, if they extend support to 2029, they could just have companies ship the 8GB systems with windows 10, especially since even if their claims are true, it still puts windows 11 at a massively higher resource utilization than windows 10. After that, with the DRAM price fixing stops, people can then upgrade their RAM before moving to windows 11. https://i.imgur.com/VbFrc4j.jpeg Reply

adamboy64 They've been spruiking Windows 11 improvements for many months. All I've seen is more Copilot forced onto us. Reply
