bigdragon Jailbreaking the infotainment unit sounds very useful. I remember my last ICE car (a Subaru BRZ) had a clunky infotainment system, and that Subaru wanted absurd money to update the maps for the navigation feature. Why would I pay a stealership to install map updates via "special SD card" when I can get them for free on my phone? I would have loved to jailbreak that system. I wouldn't be concerned about this vulnerability. It sounds more like a bonus capability to me. I don't think anyone driving a Civic has to worry about a physical access attack like this. However, if insurance companies suddenly start recruiting mechanics and valets, then we can get concerned! Nobody wants some hypothetical State Farm malware in their vehicle watching their every move for any excuse to raise their rates! Reply

Cars are becoming spy boxes. The Google-ization of everything keeps moving forward. My location or metadata whatever, that is my data, I own it. It's MINE , my personal property. They have no right to steal it. Reply

Air2004 I remember back when a car was car and we had to trek through 10 feet of snow in barefeet just to make it to school. We didn't need none these fancy do-dads with bright shiny screens, and a radio was a real radio with knobs and a tuner and antenna…. even some rich uppity people had a 8-trak if you can belive that.
