kealii123 I paid $2300 for my 4090 laptop just a year ago. This pricing is insane. Reply
Roland Of Gilead it’s a really difficult year for Intel and especially the OEM like us No way. Really? This is just gross. These devices are now so niche (because of pricing mainly), increasing the MSRP will just tank sales. I never quite understood how companies can nerf their pwn products. These seems like one of those moments. Not that I have anything against handhelds ( I do like the idea of it), but this is pure price gouging. Nothing short of extortionate. For me, the whole handheld thingy is a waste of time. I don't want to have permanent damage to my neck, and nor do I want carpal tunnel, and certainly not for 1.7k!!!! Reply
Gururu I wouldn't even spend $1K on this ewaste junk. Twitchy FPS today, landfill tomorrow. I can't diss anyone buying a switch 2 @$500 because its console, but even the Steam Deck @$800-1000 is asking too much. Reply

Roland Of Gilead kealii123 said: Are you really suggesting MSI is price gouging Well not necessarily, but being as you asked, yes. Of course there's an increase in costs to manufacturers, but to think that these inflated prices are just down to component costs alone would be folly. They still have to maintain their margins, and why not add on an extra 10%, because components are more costly? Yes, gouging. Reply

GenericUser2001 Isn't this about the same price as PantherLake laptops with the same Arc B390 iGPU? At least I can't find any B390 laptops with 32 GB of RAM that are cheaper. Intel must be charging a lot for those chips. kealii123 said: I paid $2300 for my 4090 laptop just a year ago. This pricing is insane. Yeah, its a terrible deal compared to gaming laptops; even with recent inflated pricing you can easily buy a RTX 5070 laptop for hundreds less, and 5070TI laptops regularly go on sale for the same price if you look around. You would have to be really attached to the handheld form factor to shell out for one of these. Reply
thestryker The low end of the range they gave at $1500 is still too high, but at least my first reaction to that wasn't laughter. Component prices obviously have a lot to do with it, but even being generous and comparing with retail price increases a $1700-1800 price tag means this device would have been around $1200+ in normal times which still seems too expensive. I'm not sure what they need to do to get prices on these down, but if they want to have a healthy market they need to. Perhaps they can overlap mainboard design with some of their laptop lines to increase volume. To me whatever the top performing model is needs to have a SKU that costs $1000 and then can go up from there. Just a snapshot of how crazy the market is for Ultra Series 3 X laptops: Dell's cheapest starts at $1900. HP doesn't seem to have anything less than $2800 (and that's not even in stock). Lenovo also starts at $2819. An interesting note about them is that the base model is a U5 338H with 32GB LPDDR5X-8533 at $2129. When you change that to a UX7 358H the processor alone is $290, but they're also charging an additional $400 for LPDDR5X-9600 memory. Microsoft Surface laptops start at $2550 (Newegg has one for $2500 and that's the cheapest X laptop they're selling). The Acer Swift 16 AI is selling for $1600 direct, but has 16GB DRAM. Best Buy has the above Acer Swift at $1550 otherwise the rest are $2100 or more. Needless to say I think this is a sign for all newly manufactured laptops and the only positive is that it will probably take a while for older inventory to disappear so decent prices should still be possible for those.
