Qualcomm can massage the numbers to get the result they want. Should be noted that's a half disabled Alder Lake-N die. But I guess they are comparing to it since it's probably sold at similar prices. The comparison they are doing here might be fair if Snap-C laptops are actually priced like N250 laptops. Whereas most WCL 304 laptops are going to be $500+ AFAIK. Chuwi starts at $450 but their brand reputation is in the dumpster. Minisforum just launched a barebones 304 box at $263 early bird ($329 regular). Want 16 GB DDR5 and 500 GB SSD with that? That will be $559. I hope we see more adoption of the SKUs with 2 P-cores and 2 Xe3 cores (graphics doubled!). So many 8-core ADL-N dies were disabled into 4-cores, and we could be seeing something similar with the Core 3 304. Wildcat Lake Refresh supposedly coming to add another 2 P-cores gives me some hope that a majority of these devices will end up with more than the single consumer SKU with one lonely Xe3 core (the 305 has 2 P-cores, also only 1 Xe3, and no NPU, but appears intended for the embedded market). pug_s $300 is a good price, but compared to low end n250 is not much to compare to. Plus there are no application compability issues with the n250. Maybe you can use this for a NAS? Reply
abufrejoval I bought a OnePlus Pad 3 when the Fruity Cult launched its Neo for €500, including 16GB of RAM, 500GB of Flash, a watch, digitizer, keyboard, and two covers (no charger, though). That's a 2+6 setup using Oryon Elite cores running up to 4.3 (2) or 3.5 GHz (6) on quite a lot less power than anything Intel and include pretty quick graphics, too. Never touched a Neo, but I'm pretty sure it looks bad in comparison. The successor with a faster chip only offer 12GB of RAM and 250 GB of Flash at this price, that's RAMageddon doing its work. Personal computing used to be about getting tons more performance per generation at similar prices. Today buying the last gen or even older gets you better performance for the same price. My recommendation in this market: don't buy them when they're new, but when vendors need to empty their warehouses. These devices will sell cheaper in a year or too, even if RAM prices keep going up. Because vendors can't unsolder those bundled RAM chips any more, but SoC prices still age. Reply
