Its not that unusual when you consider that people were ready to storm Austin when their electricity rates skyrocketed — without massive data center projects adding to the load. Their utilities are very privatized and more unregulated than most, leaving it extremely sensitive to loads/demand when it comes to billing. Politicians at least for now still have to worry about being booted out of office. Reply

It is and it isn't. The primary energy production on the Texas grid is independent from the other grids in the US. However, there are interconnects that do exchange power between the Texas grid and other grids, but it's fairly limited. For 99% of the power used in Texas it's coming from its own grid. Reply
