They make a point of this in the article even, the user wanted to play an old steam game they had on disc. If you are going to throw around accusations make sure they are real. Reply
bit_user I just like seeing optical drives get more use on Linux, so that the code stays well-maintained. AI is finding lots of bugs in old code, and if nobody is using it, then the kernel maintainers would rather just get rid of it and not bother having to fix it. Reply
derekullo Epic Games: Curse that Valve for being so consumer friendly! And their Steam library is just too big! https://y.getyarn.io/ecfd0544-2e7f-4b69-af01-2d55197faebe_text.gif Reply

But Valve taxes game developers like 30% for sales on Steam, which seems awfully high. How much does Epic take? Edit: Not sure if this is current, but Epic's take is 12% and you get 100% of in-app purchases (if using a 3rd party provider). Elsewhere, I saw they offer a discount for games using Unreal Engine, but I don't know if that's still a thing. https://store.epicgames.com/news/epic-games-store-launches-self-publishing-tools-for-game-developers-and-publishers Reply

How about the 2021 game I installed off disk on Steam? That was pretty real: a/jNuxKVH View: https://imgur.com/a/jNuxKVH Reply
redshirtwookiee While this is cool in many respects, wouldn't it be more power efficient to rip the movie to a file then play it back in a media app like Bigscreen or smth like that? I'd be interested to see how much battery life using an ODD uses and how much it shrinks the battery life of the frame. Reply
