The radical new business models being teased at the moment could point toward more subscription services, deeper financing plans, or simple hardware partnerships, as we mentioned earlier, where OEMs build the console for Xbox. It's a bit too early to speculate all that, but it's clear that the company is not giving up easily. A lot hinges on the success of Xbox Helix next year, which is now all but confirmed to be a luxury device.

cknobman Just going to sit back and let these companies shoot themselves in the foot! Xbox hardware will fail spectacularly at high price points. Microsoft pushing AI as consumers reject it. Loose money on AI no one uses or wants, lose money on Xbox because no one can afford to buy it. 2027, me thinks, will be the year of "reaping". So many companies are going to be in financial trouble from the AI inflation side effects. Memory, cpus, electricity, and so much more are all priced so high that all the markets depending on those components will start failing. Reply

Arkitekt78 Xbox is whining about hardware costs all while their company is largely responsible for that bump in hardware costs… Can't make this stuff up, folks. Reply

ezst036 No way! Only Valve will have extra memory costs on DRAM for the GabeCube. That clearly wouldn't affect Playstation or Xbox or anybody else. Reply

I don't remember anyone claiming that it wouldn't affect PlayStation or Xbox. But Valve looked very unprepared with a "joke" like this: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Valve-jokes-about-memory-shortage-at-GDC-with-Steam-Machine-release-date-and-price-in-doubt.1247724.0.html If you have a line on a bunch of RAM, we are in the market and would like to buy it. But they all structure their thoughts that way. Every last one of them. Otherwise you'd see more price-parity comparisons taking into account DRAM woes on both sides, which you never see. Reply
