Kicapan07 Basically they limited one of the few useful things Claude can actually do since game companies refuse to make and release these native PC ports of older games that are as good as what these guys are making. Reply
Penfolduk This still threatens the AAA games industry, as people will be able to generate fresh new games rather than tired old rehashes. Yes, I do mean you Rockstar… Reply
thesyndrome Claude will now offer to build an original game in the same genre when asked to copy an existing one I think calling that "loosening (sic) the rule" is an overstatement. That's like asking for a pepperoni pizza and being handed a plain flatbread with no extra ingredients or toppings and then being told it's close enough because it's the right shape and has bread in it. Also fear of "piracy" is not the primary reason they implemented this, it was a fear that they couldn't sell overpriced and underbaked remasters of games people already own, the same reason console manufacturers basically gave up on backwards compatibility after the 7th generation (with only Microsoft sticking with it, because lets face it: Xbox needs all the good publicity it can get an Microsoft know that). The idea that a consumer could get a free recomp to run a game on modern operating systems because they held on to the game disc for years is a major threat to the gaming industry's laziest modern trend to squeeze money out of consumers. Yes, I do mean you Rockstar… How dare you not be happy paying $80 for a new release of Skyrim with official DLSS 5 and one added quest! 🤣 The AAA industry is so risk-averse, so top-heavy, so slow and bloated that AI is simply accelerating their own collapse. I don't care for the explosion of slop games, but I do enjoy the recompilations, rereleases, remixes, and similar work that's been going on… especially when it's things we were told were too hard, not economically feasible, or just flat out impossible. alan.campbell99 The rework trend for games is interesting. I haven't really looked into this WoW Forever thing, I do know that I wouldn't be keen going back to the chunky 2004 player models. In some cases for me nostalgia only goes so far Reply

It's hardly unique to AAA developers. This is corporate business 101. It's repeated in every market everywhere. Get big, incorporate, become slave to corporate earnings and short-term investors, become extractors of value, throw your weight around until you're a vapid shell of a business, fail or become evil. You've seen this cycle hundreds of times. When the mission becomes money, as it always does due to the ubiquitous modern interpretation of the mandate to "maximize shareholder value", this is what becomes of the company. Reply
JohnyFin This situation is consequences of last 10 years of dump decisions in AAA gaming companies. Micro transaction, wok, third sex version, pinky coloring games, ugly design, lack of vision. People got angry with gaming industry, stoping playing slop games. Thanks of AI players can take in own hands actions 👍 Reply
bill001g I think the larger problem is going to be we are no longer going to see demos of games and less of the coming soon ie in 2 years trailers at game conferences. Mostly this is the small inde game makers. They tend to produce fairly simple games but they have some new idea. It is this new idea that will make them the money. The problem they have is people will take the idea feed it into AI and get massive amounts of poor quality clones it will be hard to stand out and make enough profit. Steam already had lots of human made slop where people just cobbled together assets they got for cheap or free and then used some of the example game engine code for most their game. These tended to be very obvious. Now with AI generated games you have it is a massive effort to sort though games. Kinda like that needle in the haystack game that is popular and now has hundreds of clones. Maybe they should make a AI game to sort out the AI garbage on steam. Reply
