We just re-reviewed the Ryzen 7 5800X3D to evaluate how the CPU stacks up to the current market at its new $350 suggested retail price. If you already have an AM4 motherboard and memory to go with the CPU, it's a good choice at $350. Otherwise, there are better options.
AMD's newer Ryzen 7 7600X3D is just as fast in applications, despite sporting fewer cores, and it's around 15% faster in games. Meanwhile, Intel's Core i7-14700K paired with DDR4 matches the 5800X3D in games and offers around twice the multithreaded performance. With DDR5, the Core i7-14700K wins across the board.

limsrr Literally made this account to send corrections, hopefully the author will fix this. The chip is currently readily available thru Microcenter both as a standalone and as bundles. I was able to go pickup a standalone at my local MC, they had plenty. Also, the official AMD website did go live this morning at 9am EST, they sold out in about 15 minutes. The currently US retailers that have gone live are AMD.com, Newegg and Amazon. Reply

It looks like the MC situation depends on the individual store. As for AMD and Newegg, yes, we saw listings go live. We've also seen them go out of stock and come back in stock throughout the morning. Amazon has gone live through third-party sellers, which are currently asking $616 for it. Reply

Hi Jake, thank you for the reply. According the standalone CPU page on MC, every single one has them except 1 that is out of stock in Maryland. In your article you state, "We also haven't seen the chip go live on AMD's direct web store yet." which is false. Also AMD.com never came back into stock, once it was gone at approx 9:20, it has not come back. Newegg is the only one that had flickering in and out stock through the day. Amazon also did go live at 12pmEST and was available directly sold and shipped from Amazon. It sold out in 30 minutes. Thanks. Reply
Trake_17 If you buy a new processor on eBay, especially if you buy it for list price or more, you're supporting scalpers. They buy up all the inventory in hopes of a demand surge, and there's no skin in the game for them if they can sell it back for what they bought for later if the demand surge never materializes. I figure basically no one is in a used market selling something new that wasn't hoping to scalp it first. Reply
masterv3ga I was thankfully able to pick one of these up from Newegg this morning at MSRP. My wife's old R7 2700x is the thing weighing her system down and she has just new enough of a motherboard to support it. This seems like a very stupid part to scalp. Do people want it? Yes, but they want it because it enables them to build a reasonably powerful yet significantly less expensive gaming PC. If you add $300 to its asking price, the would-be buyer might as well buy a more recent system with more up-to-date memory unless this is an in-slot upgrade. And if it's an in-slot upgrade, the would-be buyer can just wait. That's what we planned to do if everything got snapped up before we could buy one. Reply
umeng2002_2 AMD did not re-design the bonding just for a limited run. Scalpers and traitors get the same punishment in my book. Reply
